Dr Hunt joined the Trust in 2012, when he began his specialist training in clinical genetics. He became a consultant in 2016.

Dr Hunt works in general and prenatal (before birth) genetics, and has outpatient clinics in Southampton, Portsmouth and Newport. He sees children and adults who are referred with suspected or confirmed genetic disorders. He also provides counselling and advice to expectant parents whose baby may have a genetic disorder.

Dr Hunt’s clinical interests include:

  • genomic pathology (the study of variants in our genomes that can result in disease)
  • the clinical reporting of findings from high-throughput sequencing, a technique that allows geneticists to sequence large amounts of DNA quickly and cost effectively
  • PURA syndrome, a rare neurodevelopmental disorder.
Research

Dr Hunt is involved in the primary review of results received by the Wessex Genome Medicine Centre from the 100,000 Genomes Project. Other research interests include PURA syndrome and the clinical application of ‘omics’ technologies (for example genomics).
