Michał Bielak is a resident physician at the Department of Pediatric Neurology of the University Children’s Hospital in Lublin, Poland, where he is undergoing specialty training in pediatrics under the supervision of Prof. Magdalena Chrościńska-Krawczyk. Among his special interests are pediatric epilepsy, psychomotor development disorders and childhood disability. He is a member of the Polish Society of Epileptology (Polisch branch of International League Against Epilepsy), Polish Society of Clinical Neurophysiology (PTNK) and European Association of Childhood Disability (EACD). In addition to his daily clinical work with children suffering from different nervous system disorders, he engages in teaching activities, including practical classes and seminars with students of the Medical University of Lublin, as well as scientific work, which involves publishing articles in renowned national and international journals, such as the “Journal of Clinical Medicine” and participating in various research projects.
Among these projects are scientific experiments concerning the Polish population of patients with PURA syndrome: a program for the experimental treatment of children with PURA syndrome using pyridostigmine, and different reasearch experiments concerning the neurologocial, functional and biochemical/metabolic profiles of PURA patients.
He is also deeply committed to popularizing the issues surrounding rare diseases. He is a member of Poland PURA Foundation (Fundacja PURA Polska), within which he cooperates with other scientists, as well as patients’ families in order to promote knowledge about the disease and develop new strategies for the research on the PURA syndrome. He shared knowledge about PURA syndrome, among other occasions, during the jubilee V Edition of the Polish branch of EACD – Polish Academy of Childhood Disability (PANDA) Conference in 2024, where he delivered a lecture titled “PURA Syndrome – New Disease, New Challenges.
